A gorgeous 15.6 carat violet blue tanzanite has been wrapped with gold filled wire and hung from a gold filled chain. The necklace measures 22" long and I've used a spring ring clasp. The drop of the pendant is 1 1/4" There's the facts, now let me tell you about this tanzanite.
I love the smooth cut of the stone.I made one of these for myself and I wore it today on a trip to the market and I found myself playing with it and rolling it around in my hand like a worry stone. The gem measures 14.5mm x 10.6mm. and is cut into a smooth teardrop. The drill hole was placed very high at the top of the stone, which was great because it allowed me to wrap it so that the maximum surface of the stone is visible . I have wrapped it simply with another smooth tanzanite stone poised above the focal. I have made the bail by micro wrapping it with gold filled wire. The chain I have used is different from any I've seen before. It sparkles with the flat portions.
*Tanzanite is only found in one place on earth. Northern Tanzania. The mines are all located in an area of about 8 square miles in the Merelani Hills, near the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. It was discovered in 1967 by Masai cattle herders. Tiffany became very interested in the gem and they began promoting it to other jewelry makers. In this short amount of time, it has begun to get harder to find. The owners of the mines have said that the mines will most likely run dry within the next 20 years. If you love tanzanite, I'd buy it now!
