How to Grow Lavender from Seeds:
Choosing Lavender Seeds:
There are several varieties of lavender, including English lavender and French lavender. Choose the variety that best suits your climate and garden style. Our lavender seeds are authentic seeds, heirloom seeds, and organic seeds, ensuring high-quality growth.
Start Seeds Indoors:
Start your lavender seeds indoors 10-12 weeks before the last frost. For better germination, consider cold stratification by placing the seeds in the refrigerator for 2-4 weeks. These easy to grow seeds will benefit from the cooler temperatures before sowing.
Sowing the Seeds:
Fill seed trays or pots with a well-draining seed-starting mix. Sow the lavender seeds on the surface, covering them lightly with soil. Keep the soil moist and maintain a temperature of 65°F to 70°F (18°C-21°C). Lavender seeds thrive in well-lit areas, making them perfect for starting indoors.
Germination:
Lavender seeds can take 14-30 days to germinate. Be patient as these medicinal herb seeds grow. Make sure they have plenty of light, whether from a sunny spot or grow lights.
Transplanting:
Once the seedlings have developed two sets of true leaves, thin them out to ensure healthy growth. Transplant the strongest seedlings into larger pots filled with well-draining potting mix. These fragrant flowers will continue to grow indoors until ready for outdoor planting.
Harden Off and Outdoor Planting:
Gradually acclimate the lavender seedlings to outdoor conditions over 1-2 weeks. Plant them in a sunny, well-drained spot in your garden seeds collection. Lavender thrives in full sun with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight, making it a great addition to any bee friendly plants setup.
Planting in the Garden:
Space the plants about 12-18 inches apart, allowing for air circulation. Lavender flowers prefer poor to moderately fertile, well-drained soil, making them ideal for sustainable gardening and herb gardens.
Care and Maintenance:
Lightly prune the lavender plant after blooming to maintain its shape and encourage more flowers. Fertilize lightly with organic compost in the spring. Lavender is drought-tolerant once established, so water sparingly.
Harvesting:
Harvest lavender flowers just before they fully open for the best fragrance. Dried lavender is perfect for culinary herbs, herbal remedies, and natural skincare products.
Overwintering:
In colder climates, mulch around the base of the plants to protect them from frost. Alternatively, grow lavender in containers and bring them indoors during the winter.
Our lavender seeds will grow into beautiful, fragrant plants that enhance your herb garden and provide benefits such as bee-friendly plants, herbal remedies, and soothing calming plants. These lavender flowers are perfect for pollinator gardens, border flowers, and cut flower seeds, ensuring a stunning and fragrant addition to your garden.
