This item is solid brass. It does patina slightly over time. It is not a defect. Regular cleaning/polishing will help the item keep its bright color.

Over time, brass develops a patina and darkens into a darker gold or warm brown color. This is a natural process. It is not a defect. Brass does not rust, it is corrosion resistant and it can be worn in the water. Often a shower is just enough to keep it bright and shiny.
