About the Artwork:

Les Chevaux de Dalí (The Dalinian Horses)
The "Les Chevaux de Dalí" (The Dalinian Horses) is one of Salvador Dalí's most popular and widely recognized graphic suites, published in 1983 by Armand and Georges Israel in Paris. The collection consists of 18 original color lithographs, created after a series of 25 gouache paintings that Dalí produced around 1971.

Theme and Technique:

The horse was a recurring and powerful symbol for Dalí, representing a mix of beauty, elegance, strength, and raw, untamed energy, often rooted in mythology and history. Unlike earlier, more experimental graphic works where Dalí was physically drawing on the stone, these lithographs are considered "after Dalí" works. This means they are high-quality reproductions produced under his direct supervision and with his consent during his lifetime, but the signature is "plate-signed" but the signature is "imprinted directly on the paper as part of the print", not hand-penciled.

The SPADEM Edition:

Specific lithographs are part of a large, high-volume edition, which is typical for this series. They bear the S.P.A.D.E.M. (Société de la Propriété Artistique des Dessins et Modèles) copyright stamp in the lower left corner. This stamp authenticates that the production was officially authorized and supervised by the French copyright protection society representing Dalí's artistic rights. The prints were meticulously produced on high-quality Vélin d'Arches paper in France.
The resulting lithographs are known for their vibrant, explosive colors and energetic lines that capture the surrealist vision of each mythological or historical horse.

Biography:

Salvador Dali was one of the most iconic painters of the Twentieth Century, with a range of imaginative, striking and surrealist work. His repertoire was influenced by classical Renaissance masters, but he also enjoyed painting with a new avant-garde approach, which investigated the role of the sub-conscious and dream world. As well as painting, he became involved in film, sculpture and photography.

Dali was born in Catalonia (a region of Spain in 1904) on 11 May in Figueras. He placed great emphasis on his Arabic lineage (descendant of the Moors); he stated that this Arabic lineage influenced his approach to life and was a factor behind his love of luxury and oriental clothes.

Dali had a habit of doing eccentric things which polarized opinions. His eccentric manner was a reflection of his art and vice versa. The fact that he was always in the limelight made his paintings more famous.
