How to Order Correctly - Size, Quantity & Space Guide

What “Up to 10 Characters” Means
1 quantity covers up to 10 characters
Characters include letters, spaces, punctuation, and symbols
Examples (10 characters or less):
OFFICE → 6 characters
PRINT SHOP → 10 characters
UNIT 3A → 7 characters
These may be ordered as quantity = 1, only if the width selected fits the text comfortably.

Base Rule (Very Important)
1 quantity = up to 10 characters
This applies only when your selected width comfortably fits the text
Narrow widths force letters to shrink — even when the character count is within 10

When You MUST Increase Quantity
Increase quantity if any of the following apply:
1. You selected a narrow width for your text (Letters would become too small or intricate to produce cleanly)
2. You want stacked or multi-line text

Example:
Text: PRINT SHOP (10 characters)
Width: 6″ total width
Although the text is within 10 characters, 6″ is too narrow.
➡ Letters become very small
➡ Cutting and producing the decal is very complex
What to do:
✔ Increase quantity or
✔ Stack the text into 2 lines while keeping the 6″ width — this produces larger, more readable letters than placing both words on one straight line at 6″ (recommended) = purchase x2 quantity of 6" wide decals.
or
✔ Choose a wider total width for the best readability, if stacking words is not an option and you want words/text on a straight line (recommended)

Here’s Why Quantity Must Increase When long text is forced into a small width:
When long text is forced into a small width, the letters become very small, thin and intricate.
1. This makes the decal much more complex to produce because:
2. Tiny letters require slower, more precise cutting
3. Thin strokes are easier to tear or distort during weeding
4. Small details increase the risk of breakage or failure
5. Production becomes more delicate and time-consuming

To properly account for this additional production difficulty and time, the quantity must be increased to 2, even if the overall size remains the same.

When Quantity = 1 Is OK
Quantity does not need to be increased when:

Your text exceeds 10 characters and The width is wide enough for one straight line with readable letters

Example:
Text: DAVID E. SMITH, MD (18 characters)
Width: 23″ total width
The text fits comfortably.
➡ Letters are readable
➡ Size is appropriate
Result:
✔ Quantity = 1 is sufficient

How Width Affects Letter Height

Letter height automatically scales to fit the width you choose.
More characters in the same width → shorter letters
Fewer characters → taller letters
Small width = tiny letters, which means:
1. Reduced readability
2. Lower durability
3. More difficult cutting and production

Recommended Width Guidelines

These are general recommendations for professional results:

Short words (1–4 letters): ~6″ wide (e.g. WC)
Medium words or short phrases (8–12 characters): 10–14″ wide (e.g. OFFICE or I AM ENOUGH)
Long names or phrases (18+ characters): 18–24″+ wide (e.g. DAVID E. SMITH, MD)
Tip: Increase width or stack text for bold, readable lettering.

Straight Line vs. Stacked Text

Straight Line (One Line):
Width must fit the entire phrase
Quantity does not increase if width is sufficient or correctly chosen

Stacked Text (Multiple Lines):
Width is determined by the longest line
Shorter lines scale proportionally (except otherwise requested)
Each line requires its own quantity

Use a tape measure and note the maximum width available.
Common examples:
Transom glass: Measure the glass width only (not the door frame)
Door panel: Measure the flat area between edges or panels

Wall: Measure the space you want the lettering to fill

Step 2: Choose a Width Slightly Smaller Than the Space
For best visual balance:
Select a width at least 1–2 inches smaller than your available space
This leaves breathing room on each side

Recommended decal width: 20–22″ maximum
