This two-piece set—a separate bodysuit and skirt—offers comfort, flexibility, and an excellent fit. Sewing the top and bottom as individual garments has many advantages. A stretch-fabric bodysuit is easier to fit precisely, while the skirt, being large and heavy, is far more practical to wash, press, and store on its own. During movement or dancing, the bodysuit stays securely in place because it fastens at the crotch and does not ride up. Bathroom breaks are also much simpler with two separate pieces. Both garments can be worn individually and styled with other outfits, giving you greater versatility in your wardrobe.

This bodysuit features a low-cut neckline and is suitable only for stretchy fabrics. The sample is sewn from one layer of stretchy hand-dyed velour and decorated with large lace appliqués embroidered with pearls, all hand-sewn onto the bodice. It closes with a clasp at the bottom for convenience, and a delicate silk ribbon ties at the back.

How to Choose the Right Fabric:
Select a true four-way stretch fabric with good recovery. A medium-weight lycra or spandex blend works best. Ensure the material stretches evenly both horizontally and vertically, returns to shape without sagging, and feels stable rather than flimsy. This allows the pattern to fit and function as intended.

SKIRT

This skirt features a fitted waistband and a long, flowing silhouette created with a gathered tier at the lower half of the skirt.

The top layer is made from soft tulle, adding volume and a light, airy look. The upper section is cut as a circle skirt, and the wide gathered tier at the bottom creates additional fullness. The underskirt is made from opaque fabric to provide structure and prevent transparency, while the tulle layer is sewn separately for a delicate, romantic effect. Both layers attach at the waistband, which closes with an invisible zipper on the side or back.

As an alternative, the tulle layer and lining can be sewn as separate skirts. This makes them easier to store, wash, and press, and also allows you to mix and match with other garments for more styling options.

This is an elegant, classic, timeless skirt design. It has no gathers at the waist, creating a slimming silhouette, while the bottom is very wide and full. You can add as many tulle layers as you like. If you are using fabrics that require edge finishing—such as organza, silk, or chiffon—I recommend finishing the ruffle hem with a babylock seam.

If you know how to insert an invisible zipper, this skirt is not difficult to sew. I use a 25 cm zipper.
