I knit this for Wee Baby Dolls and i cast on 44 stitches. Knit on straight needles. As for me, faster! Beginning on Row 18, I knit a row, then purled a row, to get stockinette stitch. When beginning the Crown Decrease, I skipped Round 1, and knit across row, increasing (KFB) 4 times, across row, evenly….so now have 48 stitches! Decease on Rnd 3, make sure to purl Rnd 4, to keep stockinette stitch going, Rnd 5 decrease, Rnd 6 purl…Rnd 7 decrease. Finishing same, but sew back hat seam from top to bottom. Turned out adorable! Perfect fit!
