These custom mokume gane rings have an etched finish, one solid gold edge and are made with my most colorful metals combination - palladium, 14k rose gold, 18k yellow gold and very thin layers of sterling silver. I call this combination "PRYS" It is fabulous and bold - I love it so much I chose it for my own wedding ring! Pricing is a little higher than some of my other metal combinations - convo me for a quote if you'd like a different metal combination.
The pattern is the 'star' pattern - made by twisting the material then sawing by hand down the center, creating two halves. This means when you order two rings, you'll each be wearing half of the same piece of mokume. A great sentiment!
Examples are 6mm wide - choose your width to see the price for that width. *Price is for one ring*
Prices quoted are good for sizes up to 9.75 - please contact me for a quote for larger sizes.
When ordering, be sure to add a note with: your size, etched or smooth, and what color gold you'd like your solid edge to be (14k rose gold or 18k yellow gold).
Time to make: I make every ring in the order of deposit received - sometimes my turnaround time. Is only 4 weeks, sometimes up to 12. Please convo for current lead time, and if a rush order is possible.
I am proud to offer quality craftsmanship and obsessive attention to detail in all my work, but most importantly in my custom wedding rings. Each ring is made 100% by me, by hand, using the traditional metalsmithing tools: file, handsaw, torch, hammer. I am meticulous about creating a unique pattern for each ring, but also filing a 'comfort fit' angle on the inside so your ring will be comfortable to wear 24/7.
Mokume gane is an ancient and labor-intensive metalworking technique that involves fusing layers of contrasting metals, then deforming the layers to create unique patterns. I fuse all my own mokume; see my standard metal combinations in the photos. Custom combinations are available for an extra fee.
Every pattern is different; most can be categorized as woodgrain, but if you see a particular pattern of mine you like, tell me and I will make your rings as close to that as possible.
As on all my gold mokume gane rings, the colors you see are the native colors of the metal - no surface patina has been applied, and no predominantly copper alloys (like shakudo or shibuichi) have been used. This is important in a ring, as it receives heavy wear - surface patinas on rings rarely last, unless the design physically prevents the patina from touching skin. Beware of rings for sale on etsy using copper or brass! They will change color quickly and may physically dissolve and etch away from contact with your skin.
The white gold used is nickel-free - it is alloyed with palladium instead. I never use nickel in any of my jewelry, as many are allergic to it and some studies have shown bad health effects from wearing it long-term.
The gold I use comes from a socially-responsible supplier that reclaims and refines all their gold in the most green and eco-friendly way possible. No new gold is mined for my rings.
Thanks for looking, and please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
