Wind and Water is a hand embroidery pattern collection available from SeptemberHouse. When designing these hand embroidery patterns my goal was to capture some of that quiet and ordered beauty for which Japanese art and design is so well known. From detailed origami papers and rich patterned silk kimonos to family crests and calligraphy - all of these inspired and flavored my final designs. I fell in love with the aesthetic and the natural beauty of Japan and it's my hope that you will see that love in these embroidery designs.
These embroidery patterns offer a lot of variety in their use and level of difficulty and I think you will find there is something for everyone. The patterns in this set include:
One Seamless Border design featuring Japanese fishing boats (see photo 3). This embroidery pattern can be stitched continuously horizontally to cover an area of fabric as wide as you wish. A guide to transferring this unique style of pattern is provided in the set.
One Cherry Blossom embroidery design (see photo 2). This pattern provides a departure from traditional cherry blossom imagery and pays homage to this important and symbolic flower. It's circular layout makes it perfect for displaying in an embroidery hoop. Other possibilities include tea towels, tote bags and cushion covers - there are so many ways you can use your finished embroidery.
Three decorative crest embroidery patterns (photos 1, 4 and 5) – perfect for beginners or more advanced needlecrafters these patterns celebrate the natural world. Included are two floral patterns and one dragonfly pattern. I stitched up my examples in 3 inch hoops but they can easily be enlarged for larger projects as well.

As with all SeptemberHouse embroidery pattern sets, there is a color and stitch guide that shows what I use for my examples. I do however, encourage everyone to use whatever colors and embroidery stitches they like best. A guide for transferring your pattern to fabric is included as well.
