These leather dog collars are handmade in my workshop from full grain Sedgwick Bridle Leather. This is vegetable tanned leather which is hand-finished in a tannery in England, and is the same leather used in the equine industry. This leather is tough stuff and perfect for making robust dog collars.
I will stitch this collar by hand using the saddle stitch -- a traditional technique known for it's strength and durability -- and a braided polyester thread which is extremely strong and hardwearing.
The edges of the collar will be hand-burnished, a process which involves creating friction with a wooden tool known as a slicker, and the use of a burnishing agent to flatten the fibres of the leather. A coat of wax is then applied to further seal the edges and impart a pleasant sheen.
This listing is for a dog collar in Sedgwick Conker, which is a mid-brown tone. Please see my other listings for matching leads and alternative colour options.
Please note that leather is a natural material and as such may have small scars and imperfections.
SPECIFICATIONS:
The leather is between 3.5-4mm thick
Width of the collar is 1 inch
SIZING:
To ensure a good fit for your dog, please follow these sizing guidelines:
1) With your dog sitting, take a measuring tape and place it around the base of his/her neck where the collar will naturally sit.
2) Ensure that the tape is snug (see the picture for reference) and make a note of the size in inches. Note: It is worth repeating these steps to ensure you get the same measurement.
3) This measurement is the size that you should order.
