The Basic Pullover knits up into a versatile garment that loves to be worn any way you choose! Simple yarn-over increases along the raglan “seams” are a feature of its’ understated design. Knit "in the round" in one piece from the top down, it would make an ideal first sweater project for the beginner knitter.

Sizes: S (M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, 4X) to fit bust sizes 30-32 (34-36, 38-40, 42-44, 46-48, 50-52, 54-56) inches / 76-81 (86-91, 96-101, 107-112, 117-122, 127-132, 137-142) cm

Finished chest: 34 (38, 42, 46, 50, 54, 58) inches / 86.5 (96.5, 106.5, 116.75, 127, 137, 147) cm

Finished length (at center back): 19½ (20, 20½, 21, 21½, 25½, 27) inches / 49.5 (51, 52, 53.5, 54.5, 63.5, 68.5) cm

I'm a beginner knitter. Can I knit this sweater?
Absolutely! If you already have even tension, can cast on and join to knit in the round and are familiar with reading patterns, you can definitely knit this pullover as your very first sweater project!

What kind of yarn do I need?
This pattern includes instructions for 4 different weights of yarn: fingering weight, dk weight, worsted weight and bulky (chunky) weight. The pattern also gives the names and yardages for the yarn I used to knit the samples in the photos.


Pattern Notes

This pullover is knitted in the round from the top down meaning that it is essentially knit upside-down by beginning by casting on stitches at the neckline and working down to the underarms where stitches are then separated into front bodice, left sleeve, back bodice and right sleeve. Sleeve stitches are put on holders while front and back bodice is worked as a whole on circular needles. Once bodice is completed, stitches of one sleeve are picked up and sleeve worked and completed. The same procedure is then completed for the second sleeve. There is no sewing or seaming necessary to complete the garment - voilá!

Gauges

fingering: 26 sts and 40 rows to 4”/10cm on US size 3 (3.25mm) needles

dk: 21 sts and 28 rows to 4”/10cm on US size 6 (4mm) needles

worsted: 16 sts and 22 rows to 4”/10cm on US size 9 (5.5mm) needles

bulky: 11 sts and 15 rows to 4”/10cm on US size 13 (9mm) needles

dk: 1040 (1180, 1410, 1630, 1740, 1920, 2100) yds / 950 (1080, 1290, 1490, 1590, 1755, 1920) meters of dk weight yarn

worsted: 740 (840, 995, 1145, 1280, 1370, 1480) yds / 676 (768, 910, 1047, 1170, 1253, 1353) meters of worsted weight yarn
