1890s Ladies Straw hat, Late Victorian Woman's Straw boater, Fancy historic replica hat

Inspired by an historic fashion plate, this straw hat is made from a rough natural-coloured straw braid in the typical boater shape of the 1890's. For a twist, this one has a lip, or a turned-up edge made from one row of the straw. The edge of the hat is wired for stability and the wire is hidden behind a decorative row of Milan straw. The turned up edge is trimmed with a light brown gimp braid, which matches a fancier braid used on the hat band.

Other trimmings on this hat are: three curled ostrich tips (two beige and one light brown), a pale yellow lace bow, loops of yellow and light brown beaded embroidered organza ribbon, and the brim is filled in with pale yellow lace and vintage veiling in light brown.

The crown height is approximately 1 3/4", the brim depth is about 3", and the overall width is 12". Because the crown is small, and shallow, this hat is meant to sit on top of a fluffy hair style.

Overall it's a hat that bridges fancy and casual with the trims being fancy and the straw having a casual feel. There's an elastic to go under your hairstyle as well as two horse-hair tabs for pinning it in place.
