Backstory of the Hilt: The lightsaber belonged to Darth Maul, who was cut in half and left for dead on Naboo. He was believed dead by the Jedi Council but Maul's brother went searching for him with 1/2 of his lightsaber after getting it cut in half by Kenobi in "The Phantom Menace".
