Sand Island Lighthouse was built on Sand Island off the Gulf Coast of Alabama in the 1800s. The lighthouse was originally surrounded by approximately 400 acres, with houses and businesses, but steady erosion has shrunk it to a little more than the rocks and pilings surrounding the lighthouse.
During the Civil War, Union soldiers overtook the lighthouse, but Confederate soldiers finally burned the lighthouse down. It took nearly 10 years to rebuild the lighthouse. In 1906, a hurricane washed the lighthouse away, but once again, the lighthouse was rebuilt. Sand Island Lighthouse was finally decommissioned in 1971, and turned over to the government for restoration.
Although the lighthouse is closed to visitors due to the conditions inside the lighthouse, the lighthouse area is easily accessible to boat, and can be seen from many locations on Dauphin Island, and from Fort Morgan at Gulf Shores. There are several local boat companies that offer tours to see the lighthouse. When viewing the lighthouse by boat, looking toward Dauphin Island, you'll see a long pier surrounded by sand. Years ago, this pier was a popular fishing spot on Dauphin Island, but the pier is now surrounded by the sand that used to surround the lighthouse. Tides and time have shifted the sand from one location to the other.

They look best matted and framed which can be purchased separately. I recommend Hobby Lobby or Michael's.
2) Ready to Hang Canvas Prints are ready to hang right out of the box with a simple nail in the wall. Canvas is stretched over .75 inch thick wooden stretcher-bars that give it shape. There are no staples visible on the sides
Estimated delivery time for printing, assembling, packing and shipping is around 10 days.
3) Ready to Hang Canvas (split into 3 panels) Please contact me if interested in purchasing larger sizes in 3 panel splits for pricing. Most landscapes work well in a 3 panel split.
This is for larger pieces, and the photograph is split into 3 even separate canvas panels which when hung together make a single large image.
This allows spectacularly large sizes on your wall! Some photographs may not work well with 3 panels, depending on how the subject is placed in the photograph.
