14K Gold Australian Opal Handmade Ring

This ring features a triangular cut opal doublet, with vivid green and blue flashes of colour, bezel set in a solid 14K yellow gold band. This stone is sourced from Coober Pedy, South Australia and is expertly hand cut by us.

Opal
We have decades of experience producing large volumes of solid opals, opal doublets and boulder-backed (ironstone) doublets for the wholesale jewellery market. As a result, we determined and set about creating an improved, higher quality opal doublet for our own jewellery.

The finished pieces are created with a generous piece of the finest quality opal and natural black obsidian for the backing, and are bonded together using water and solvent resistant glues. The obsidian is black enough for the perfect background to show off the opal, and yet translucent enough to allow natural light to pass through the opal, which is key.

The opal layer starts at 1.2mm thick and many are considerably thicker. This is a minimum of twice the opal content than most commercially produced doublets (often these are .5mm to .7mm thick). By using a thicker piece of opal we can create a quality opal cabochon, greatly enhancing the depth of colour and the natural beauty of the finished stone.

The jewellery is completely safe to have professionally cleaned annually in an ultrasonic by a jeweller, and the doublet will not be affected in this process.

Finally, and perhaps best of all, our doublets are stunning. They present with a depth of colour, clarity and brightness only matched by the most expensive Lightning Ridge black and semi-black opals.
