With this LASER and WORK PIECE positioning fixture you will:

- no longer have to fire a frame loop to mark the desired boundary on the surface where the work piece will be put onto;
- no longer have to design or use a sort of “alignment matrix / grid”;
- no longer have to find and draw per hand the geometrical center direct on the work piece and drag the laser head over it.

After struggling a few times to find always the same reference start position when restarting the same project on a new work piece and therefore ending up losing much time, I came up designing a centering fixture made of two parts, one that will touch the working bed and hold the position of the work piece in place and on top of it comes a second part that will adjust the position of the laser head in reference to the work piece, this design provides a “height adjustment” so that depending on whatever kind of support you have for your working piece underneath (like an extra piece of wood or a sort of metal honey comb ribbed structure) the functionality remains the same.

The size of the L shaped part can fit any size of squared pieces and also rounded pieces up to 300mm in diameter (smaller or longer sides may be customized upon request)

The upper part will fit to the left and front profiles of the laser engraver and for both work piece and laser head module to be aligned, all that must be done is:

- Assembly both parts of the fixture together
- push the upper part until it “hooks / fits” itself to both profiles
- Align work piece and laser head module by moving them until they match the fixture
- Gently drag the fixture into corner direction to give room for the laser to start working with no risk.

IMPORTANT: make sure the “start from” settings in the laser software is configured to: CURRENT POSITION – “bottom left corner”
Upper and bottom parts have been specifically designed taking into account the crosshair functionality of the Xtool D1 which moves the laser module 15mm to the left once the machine starts: It is strictly advised to confirm if your machine has this functionality switched on​.

You are receiving 2 STL files in this offer, 0.3mm layer height is what I used for printing my parts but all detailed settings I leave open for you to follow your best practices, attached you can find a picture of how I positioned both parts prior to printing though.
This device has been designed after benchmarking the package dimensions and functionality of a XTool D1 laser engraver machine and may only fully work and fit with it.

IF YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT LASER CUTTER / ENGRAVER AND WANT THIS DEVICE TO FIT YOUR MACHINE, please provide these dimensions so that a suitable version can be created.

Be sure to have a well-calibrated XYZ axis in your 3d printer so that the 90deg arms (mounting pins) from the design may come out as accurate as possible.

GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION:
Make sure the laser machine is turned off when using the centering device
Before starting the work, make sure this centering device is no longer touching either the laser module or the work piece (step 4)
Always have your safety glasses on when operating a laser machine.
