Can I use my steel stamps for marking hardened steel?

Do not attempt to use your steel stamp for marking hardened steel. Hardened steel products cannot be stamped with steel stamps.

1. When you're not using your steel stamps, to prevent rusting, I recommend that you store your stamps in a dry, airtight container or any tin box. 2. Oiling steel stamps before storage will also protect them from rust. Canola oil is good for this purpose. 3. If you find that your steel stamps have rusted, you can use a dry cleaning cloth to remove the rust. 4. You can also use a sheet of steel sandpaper. Take care not to scrape or sand the face of the stamp to avoid scratching or roughening it. 5. After removing rust from the shaft of the stamp, wipe it with a dry paper towel or clean cloth and then oil it immediately.

What metals can be stamped with my steel die?

Your steel stamp is made of high-carbon tool steel and hardened to assure they will give long life when stamping any annealed (non-hardened) metal. It can be used on any annealed steel or softer metals. You can cold stamp with a hammer, cold stamp with a press, or hot-stamp with a hammer onto red hot metal.

Steel Stamps – Marking Instructions

You'll need: a 16 oz.(or heavier) hammer, a pair of work gloves and safety glasses, stamp holder (recommended), a 1-inch thick steel bar or an anvil. Place the steel workbench under good lighting and secure it in place. Place the items you are going to stamp on the workbench. Wear gloves and safety glasses. Hold the stamp in one hand between your thumb and index finger. Place the stamp face directly on the spot you wish to imprint. Pick up the hammer and make sure it is upright and not deflecting to any side before hitting the stamp. Make sure the entire surface of the stamp is in full contact with the surface of the piece. Strike your stamp with moderate force only once, to prevent a double image and enensure a clear and complete imprint.

Can I use my metal stamp for hot forging of mild red steel?

Absolutely, yes. These steel stamps are perfect for marking your blades while red hot during the forging process.

How long will my stamp last, and how many imprints can I get?

The answer depends on several factors: The material you’re marking, the frequency and volume you’re stamping, as well as proper use and care.

I have a logo. What format do you need it in?

I prefer vector formats but, if you don’t have your logo in vector format, you can send me whatever you have.
