ABOUT OUR PROCESS:
Each of our ceramic pieces starts life as a small piece of raw clay that is either Canadian porcelain (the ivory toned charms and cabochons) or a black Canadian clay (the black/brown charms and cabochons). We shape the clay into the desired shape individually by hand, and then the piece is painted with various glazes and some pieces are also embossed with a texture or design. After they are glazed/painted/embossed, they ‘air dry’ for several days and are then fired in our kiln to very high temperature (approx.. 2230F) or ‘stoneware’ hardness. Depending on the design and glazes used in the piece, some of our pieces go through two high temperature kiln firings.
The high temperature firing results in a vitrified ceramic piece and the glazes and designs on becomes permanently fired into the ceramic piece.
