Opal can be natural, enhanced, or synthetic. Inlaid opal is always stabilized. Opal is a water born formation that is not stabile (meaning that it will not hold it's shape forever) because the water in it will eventually dry out. Stabilized opal is not synthetic. It is impregnated with a hardener so it will not crack over time. This, of course, is beneficial to the buyer. But, it is also necessary for the inlayer because stabilized opal can be cut. All of our opal is stabilized.
