Crochet Pattern: Braided Flowers Throw (PDF Download + Photo Tutorial + Charts)

Made with bulky yarn, this floral throw blanket is quick to stitch and beautiful to display. An array of entertaining stitches create luxurious texture in this blanket made of hexagon and half-hexagon motifs.

HOW THIS BLANKET IS MADE
Each hexagon motif is worked in joined rounds, beginning with a popcorn stitch flower at the center. A braid in each corner is created by working double treble stitches into a chain space two rounds below. Half-hexagon motifs worked in rows are arranged to achieve a straight edge on the throw’s long sides.

In this intermediate-level project, motifs are joined using a join-as-you-go (JAYGO) technique that creates a decorative, braid-like seam. All of these textural elements work in harmony to create a sculptural design across the fabric. Add short tassels to the hexagon points for a touch of flair.

The pink sample shown here was made with a J/10/6.0mm crochet hook and Lion Brand Hue + Me bulky weight 80% acrylic/20% wool yarn (4.4 oz/137 yds/125 g per skein) in the color #617-101AZ Rose Water. The project required 18 skeins of this yarn.

SUGGESTED YARN SUBSTITUTES
Sample was made with bulky-weight acrylic yarn, but feel free to substitute the bulky-weight yarn of your choice. Wool or cotton would also be good options. Lighter or heavier weight yarns may also be used. A different weight yarn may require a different size hook, as well as more or less yarn than noted. Working with a thinner or thicker yarn may result in different gauge measurements, which will affect the Finished Measurements.

*Use a medium-weight yarn with this pattern to make a baby blanket!*
White blanket with colored "dots" in photos was made using Universal Yarn Cotton Supreme in white, apricot, teal, and aqua. The finished measurements were 35 x 43 inches (89 x 109 cm) and yarn required was approximately 1607 yds/1469m/893g.

GAUGE
Though exact gauge is not essential, this stitch pattern will look best with fairly tight stitches.
I used a J/10/6.0mm crochet hook. Select the hook size that gives the best appearance for your choice of yarn and your tension.
A significantly different gauge may require more or less yarn than listed.
