Attention: Wood is a natural raw material, each kuksa is UNIQUE and has its own grain, pattern and wood tone. Pictures are for example only, each cup is sent randomly.
So what is a kuksa? It's a wooden cup who normaly handcrafted in a birch burl. Many claim it origin came from Finland but maybe it would be safer to say it has scandinavian origin. Since ancient times the men and women of the north have used this versatile instrument to quench their thirst when traveling in the forest. Here in Canada, until the late 60s, lumberjack and trappers always had one with them.
So here's my version of this beautiful object that has gone through the ages and which is gaining popularity with nature lovers and environment protectors. Combining an old-fashioned making way and a touch of today technology, my kuksa try to offer the best of both worlds.
I spent a lot of time in research, design and experimentation. The part of the finish was the one that was done in the most rigorous and long way in order to find the perfect combination of durability, beauty, food contact safety and environmently respect. It takes 4 different step with a combination of plant-based oil and resin with a touch of beeswax ... And more than 30 days of drying time before being able to offer you the fruit of my creation.
When you will received this Kuksa, I hope you will be able to feel all the love and passion I have given to this object and will give you many lovely years of use. This magnificent Kuksa can also be used at home, during picnics, camping or when you go out in the wilderness.
Recommanded for cold and hot drinks (no boiling water) as like: water, juice, coffee, espresso, tea and herbal tea, etc.
Aprox. size: 130mm x 80mm x 50mm
Capacity: 150ml (aprox.)
Wood specie: Ambrosia Maple
Hand wash with clear water only, wipe right away with clean cloth after use to keep the beautiful original finish as longest time as possible. From the first use as well as over time, the luster of the finish will tend to fade. This reaction is completely normal and will not affect the performance of the product.
You can if you want, refresh the luster by applying a thin layer of a natural oil without chemical additive or hardening agent such as: Nut oil, 100% natural tunk oil, natural linseed oil or hemp oil. I do not recommend to use vegetable oil, olive oil, or any other salad oil who that can turn rancid in the long term. The use of mineral oil is also to be avoided because it has no drying properties. After application, wipe off the excess and polish vigorously. Let sit 24 to 48 hours before using again.
CAUTION: Some linseed and tung oil in the market are not intended to be applied in contact with food because they contain heavy metals as a curing agent. In doubt ask a professional. Nut oil and tung oil can cause allergies on contact.
Avoid applying oil to the inside of the cup. Isn't dangerous but could affect the taste of your favorite drink for a while. The oil application to the outside of the mug is purely and simply aesthetic.
