An antique late 1800s to early 1900s primitive wooden spoon carved from a single piece of wood. This beautiful handcrafted spoon is long, about 20 inches in length, and would have been used for stirring soups and stews made in large iron pots. A great vintage kitchen utensil to display in farmhouse, country, primitive, or rustic kitchen decors.

Farm life in the 1800s required skills other than farming. Wood was an available material on most farms so furniture, buckets, baskets, bowls, and other utensils were often hand crafted for daily use. Kitchen utensils carved out of one piece of wood were common until machinery could turn wood in the 1900s. Many of these hand made utensils were thrown out or used for fire wood when newer and more update items were purchased, and these antique, hand carved pieces are scarce. They are a piece of history and a wonderful example of folk art.

This rustic wood spoon is in excellent condition considering the age. The wood has no major splits, but does have a few marks and rough areas consistent with age, use, and how it was made.

Size is approximately 19-3/4 inches long by 2-5/8 inches wide at widest point. Handle measures about 3/4 inches in diameter.
