Can I request a custom design?

Absolutely! I welcome creative ideas for baby costumes, dog and horse hats, distinctive gifts, and other special projects. Send me a message through Etsy or email steadyhandscrochet@yahoo.com with your idea, preferred colors, sizing, and the date you need it. I am happy to discuss what is possible, the pricing, and timing.

How do I choose the right size?

Please review the measurements provided in each listing before ordering. Handmade sizing may differ from standard retail sizes, although I do use the American Craft Council measurements for sizing. If you are uncertain, contact me before purchasing so we can discuss the best fit. For pets, accurate measurements are especially important.

How long will my order take?

Processing times vary depending on whether an item is ready to ship, handmade to order, customized. Each listing provides its estimated processing and delivery information. If you are purchasing for a special occasion, please order early and contact me before purchasing if timing is critical, and I will do my best to accommodate.

How do I care for my crochet item?

Each creation deserves a little special care! Follow the instructions in the listing or included with your purchase. When appropriate for the materials, gentle handwashing and laying flat to dry can help preserve the shape and details of your handmade piece. Are your crochet patterns physical products?

No. Listings marked "Digital Download" are for crochet instructions, not finished items. Your files will be available through Etsy after purchase. Please review each pattern's skill level, materials, sizing, and other details before ordering. Note that Etsy currently does not show digital files in the mobile app: you will need to go to Etsy.com through your browser or desktop, then to your account of purchased items.

Can I sell finished items made from your crochet patterns?

You may sell finished items you personally make using my original patterns on a small scale, provided you credit Steady Hands Crochet as the pattern designer. The patterns themselves may not be copied, redistributed, shared, resold, or published as your own. This permission does not transfer ownership of the pattern or its original content.

What if I need help with a pattern?

Although I work with a technical crochet pattern editor, sometimes the instructions are not clear to how someone has learned the craft or understood my wording. I am happy to help clarify my instructions. Send me an Etsy message or an email to steadyhandscrochet@yahoo.com with the pattern name, the step you are working on, and a description of your question.

Are baby costumes and pet hats intended for everyday wear?

Many of my designs are intended for special occasions, photographs, or supervised wear. Babies and pets should always be supervised while wearing accessories or costumes. Remove an item immediately if it becomes uncomfortable, loose, or poses an entanglement risk.

Can I order something for a special event?

I love creating pieces for first birthdays, holidays, milestone photos, and other memorable occasions. Please contact me before ordering if you have a specific deadline. I will let you know whether your timeline is achievable before you commit.

This is a handmade hat for a horse or pony to wear for the Christmas season - lessons, Christmas cards, or just when the horse and rider are horsing around. (Sorry - I couldn't resist!)

Hand-crocheted with acrylic yarn and stuffed with polyester stuffing, it is made to fit perfectly under a bridle, and includes a tie on the right that loops under the chin and ties to the opposite corner of the hat beneath the bridle buckle. it has a hefty star on the top and cascading rounds of red pompoms as decoration.

Made to fit a large horse: approximate dimensions are
21" across the front, 4" between the ears, 22" across the back, and 4" from the brow to base of the ears. The tie is about 24" long.

CAUTION: The pompom ribbon has been manufactured with a small staple in the back of each pompom. Please keep away from horse’s mouths! (PS Peppermints are a good alternate.)
