Provenance: Transvaal, South Africa
Hydrogrossular is a mineral of the calcium and aluminum garnet family.
The hydrogrossular is translucent to opaque and can be green, bluish-green, pink, white and gray.
The green color is due to chromium and possibly iron, while the pink color is related to the presence of manganese. The hydrogrossular may contain small dark gray or black inclusions. It has similarities with jade and has the names Transvaal jade and African jade.

Hydrogrossular is sometimes used as a gem. Green and pink hydrogrossulars come from South Africa, Canada and the United States.
The white hydrogrossular comes from Burma and China.
