Fantastic Mexican Folk Art Huichol Beaded Carved Bear in excellent vintage condition!

Painstakingly crafted by a master artist of the Huichol tribe this vibrantly colored carved wood beaded bear exhibits many of interpretive symbols of this celebrated tribe including an antelope on it's side!

Measures 5" long by 2" wide by 3 1/4" tall

Huichol beaded art is hand crafted by an indigenous ethnic group that live in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains in Mexico.

The Huichol have achieved their cultural art through two different techniques; art that works with yarn in pictures, as if it were a painting, and art that is made with beads, like the work featured here on carved wood. Both techniques are known as nierikas.

Ritual ingestion of peyote, which produces a series of hallucinations and psychedelic scenes, including visions of nature elements, embody most of the images seen in Huichol art.

Each line, flower, star, animal, symbol or figure has a different meaning which together form a message, story or secret that will be revealed among the unique Huichol tribes.
