What happens if seeds don't germinate?

Viva la Seeds sells the finest and freshest seeds in the industry. We sell is 100% pure seed, American grown seeds: no additives, no fillers. Our germination rates far exceed government standards, and when planted according to recognized practices, should provide lasting and satisfying results for years to come. That said, we can make no explicit guarantees or allowances for circumstances over which we have no control. Bad weather, poor timing, and human error can all lead to unanticipated and unsatisfactory results. As all experienced gardeners are aware, Mother Nature does not guarantee perfection, and neither can we. If there is an issue though, please contact us. We are very understanding.

Shipping issues and wrong addresses

In the event that the post office or other shipping companies lose your package in transit, please contact me and I'll do everything in my power to assist you. However, there has been a growing issue across all online businesses with customers providing incorrect addresses. This error is usually due to using auto-fill features in browsers and defaulting to old addresses. If you notice the mistake, please contact us as soon as possible and hopefully it can be caught before the order is shipped. Once it is shipped, it is out of our hands and we can not be held responsible for the mistake. There is a $3.50 charge to have it reshipped.

In general, I pride myself on getting orders out the day of the order. Large orders and orders during peak times may take 2-3 days to fill and process the order.

Do seeds come with growing instructions?

Yes, every order we fill has growing instructions on the label. These instructions are brief since room is limited on the labels. The name chia comes from a Mayan word that roughly translates as “something that makes you strong.” That phrase certainly describes the nutrition-packed seeds of Salvia hispanica. Salvia hispanic is a species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala. It is considered a "pseudocereal", cultivated for its edible, hydrophilic chia seed, grown and commonly used as food in several countries of western South America, western Mexico, and the southwestern United States. These seeds boast high levels of essential fatty acids (omega-3s) and contain high fiber levels—around 10 grams per ounce (that's about two tablespoons). Seeds aren’t the only part of Salvia hispanica worth munching. Sprouts are also edible, and you can sprout seeds for edible sprouts, just like alfalfa or sunflower sprouts. Use sprouts in salads or sandwiches. The growing shoots of Salvia hispanica are edible, too, and work well in salads and sandwiches. Or try them with basil for a nutritious pesto, serve them in soups or omelets or toss them into stir fries during the final moments of cooking.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
For sprouting purposes, place the chia seeds in a tray and moisten them with water. Cover the tray and keep it at a temperature of 75-85 degrees F for about four days or until they reach 1/2", the usual size for eating. Start the seeds for planting outdoors 4-6 weeks before the last spring frost, sowing them on the surface of the soil and keeping the flat warm and lightly moist. Transplant the seedlings well after frost, spacing them 12-15" apart in well drained soil and full sun. Chia prefers fairly dry soil, and should not be watered regularly unless drought conditions persist. Harvest fresh leaves as soon as the plant reaches a height of 6". The leaves can also be dried for use in tea. If given a long and warm enough growing season, chia will produce seed heads that can be dried and threshed to remove the seed. However, since chia seeds easily absorb moisture, they are prone to mold and other diseases; for this reason, eating untested chia seed may pose a risk.
