Schrödinger's Cat Show
DIY printable paper craft template that move!

When you turn the handle with your fingertip, Prof. E. Schrödinger dressed as a magician opens and shuts the box. An alive (awake) cat and a dead (asleep) cat appears one after the other. This movement is made by "geneva stop and cam".

4 out of 5 stars 4 This item

I wanted to give this 5 stars, but I had some trouble in the process. When I made this the first time, I mistakenly printed on regular copy paper, so I attributed the lack of rotation and flimsiness to that. However, when I tried for a second time on heavy cardstock paper, I still ran into the same problem. The gear called “geneva stop mechanism” isn’t sturdy enough. I think it’s because the area around the center axle is too narrow. It also doesn’t always fully catch the little bar that causes the rotation. As soon as this catch started going off track, it caused the back gear to twist and tear off of the connecting handle. I was bummed because I was hoping the cardstock would overcome these issues. Overall, the instructions were clear and beautifully drawn and I’m happy I get to think like a paper engineer!

Item is very difficult to create especially #P the star cog which after four times i made it out of 1/4 balsa wood also if building this piece before gluing the head in closure I highly recommend adding some weight to allow the arms to come down ( I added 4 dimes in the pocket cavity beneath the head) other then that you must use heavy cover stock paper I used 65 lb.
