Highlights
This 3 tray worm bin composting kit is the perfect system to generate high quality worm castings, otherwise called “black gold”! It is small enough for indoor spaces, and big enough to add lots of food waste. Start with one tray and eventually work your way up to all 3!
These wooden worm bins consist of 3 trays with hardware cloth attached, a base that drains the liquid fertilizer, and a lid with air holes. The bins are built with beautiful and aromatic natural cedar. The bin with three tiers approximately measures 24" tall, 20" wide, and 18" deep.
This product includes:
All pre-cut building materials (lumber, hardware cloth, hardware)
A step-by-step instruction manual for easy assembly
What you’ll need:
A screw driver or gun
Assembly:
The kit is easy to assemble! All you need to do is fasten screws into the pre-drilled holes.
How to use the Bin:
- First, add one tray onto the base.
- Put down your worm bedding - Some good worm bedding is cardboard, black and white newspaper, and a base soil like peat moss.
- Add your red wigglers or red worms.
- Layer food scraps with more bedding material
- Lastly, add some water if your pile is too dry - Worms like to be in a damp, dark area.
Maintaining your Worm Bin:
You should regularly add food scraps and bedding to the pile until the first tray becomes full. Once the first tray is full, add another tray on top, add some bedding and food, and wait until all your worms migrate to the second tray. Once they do, the bottom tray will be full of “black gold” or worm castings, that you can sift and use how you desire!

I've had worms in various containers for over ten years. When it was time to get a new worm box, could I have purchased a plastic one, or even made a real cheap one out of a tub? Sure! But would I LOVE a plastic worm farm? No! This hexagonal wooden worm box is gorgeous. I'll enjoy heading out to feed the worms for many years to come. 4/27/23 Edit: after a rainstorm and some warming temperatures the lid is bowing; lid design could use some reinforcement.
