I ordered the pathfinder version without giving it much thought. The version printed is the now replaced second edition. Due to a legal issue between Paizo and Hasbro, Paizo was forced to re-release the second edition with some obvious changes to the game. The now published line is called second edition remaster. These journals are for the first version of second edition. That being said the journals can easily be converted, the system hasn't changed completely. Just in small ways. Like how the character sheet records spells. Also as another example the remaster doesn't use the dungeon and dragons alignment system. So, that's off the character sheet now as well. Those are just two examples of the difference between the original published run of second edition and the now published remaster of second edition.
