What happens when you're challenged to use old, broken jewelry that happens to be oddly shaped and...hideously LOUD? Obviously, you continue with the theme and create earrings that are either loved at first sight or just plain cringe-worthy.

It all started with a pair of broken earrings with painfully vivid yellow enameled metal pieces in an odd shape, part crescent moon, part banana. The enameled metal pieces were in great condition, so I decided to challenge myself and make something with them. Yellow is not a color I work with often and it's beneficial to step out of your comfort zone once in a while. I paired the brilliant yellow with aquamarine blues, using rivoli crystals that the metal crescents partially surround. Various types of beads in matching blues and dyed yellow coral embellish the earrings. They measure approximately 2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. This pair of earrings are definitely eye-catching!

A friend I showed these to said they 'look like sunshine on tropical waters near sunset'. My 10-year-old niece said they remind her of macaroni and cheese.
