Step 1: The watercolor pen should be soaked in warm or room temperature water, the soaking time should not be too long until the nib is completely open, the gel of the pen root should not be melted, otherwise it will become a "drip pen" and the bristles will fall off easily.
Step 2: Before writing, it is necessary to wet the calligraphy brushes slightly. As long as the brush is wet with ink, it cannot be used for drawing or calligraphy. The way to do this is to wet the brush with water first, then lift it up and do not soak it for a long time to prevent the glue at the root of the brush from melting. Then hang the brush upside down until the tip is flexible, which takes about tens of minutes. The brushes must be dry when stored. If the brushes are not wet, they can be painted or handwritten. The bristles will become brittle and inelastic.
Step 3: Calligraphy or painting. In order to achieve an even result and allow the ink to penetrate the brush, it is necessary to first absorb dry water and gently drag the brush on absorbent paper until it is dry. By "dry" I mean not completely dry. Less or more ink is not good for writing and drawing.

Maintenance methods.
1. After the painting and calligraphy is completed, the brush should be washed and brushed with flowing water immediately.
2. After washing, first absorb the excess water and straighten it. Then hang the brush on a brush stand and let the remaining water continue to drip until dry. Care should be taken to shade and dry the brushes to preserve their original shape and character. Drying is the key to preserving brushes.
