Frankenstein is a classic 1931 American horror film based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. Frankenstein stars Colin Clive as Henry Frankenstein, an obsessed scientist who digs up corpses with his assistant in order to assemble a living being from dead body parts. The resulting creature, often known as Frankenstein's monster, is portrayed by Boris Karloff. Produced and distributed by Universal Pictures, the film was a commercial success, and spawned a number of sequels and spin-offs, and has had a significant impact on popular culture.

Bride of Frankenstein is a 1935 Universal horror film, and the first sequel to Universal Pictures' 1931 film Frankenstein, featuring Elsa Lanchester in the dual role of both Mary Shelley, and the bride. Its plot follows Henry Frankenstein as he attempts to abandon his plans to create life, only to be coerced by threats from the Monster, into constructing a mate.
