Antique Egyptian Revival Art Nouveau Rebuilt From Matched Pair Original Parts

Antique Art Nouveau Egyptian Revival table lamp from the late 1800s or early 1900s, showing classic Egyptian Revival figural metalwork and stepped marble construction. The style was widely used from about 1880 to 1930 in decorative arts and architecture, and this lamp reflects that period clearly in its design and materials.

The top section has a tall solid brass finial made of three separate pieces. The finial sections can be used together or individually to adjust the height of the lamp shade or change the configuration. The harp can be changed out to any size needed for the shade you choose. Below the harp connector is an ornate metal piece with a faux wick key that is decorative only.

The glass font is heavy, thick, and funnel shaped with natural air bubbles and vertical wave lines similar to early optic glass. The top diameter is about 6 and a half inches and it narrows to about 1 and a half inches at the lower connection. Around the font is a decorative metal ring a little over 4 and a half inches in diameter. Three vertical figural supports connect this ring to the base. Each support is about 8 and a half inches tall and has a stylized Egyptian face and headpiece. The lower ring that rests on the marble is about 1 and three quarter inches. This ring sits loosely by design to avoid pressure on the glass and the marble.

The base is stepped black marble with beige and rust grain. Based on research, the marble resembles Italian Negro Portoro. The top marble block is 3 and a half by 3 and a half inches and 1 inch tall. The beaded metal divider between the marble steps is about 4 and a half by 4 and a quarter inches and one quarter inch tall. The bottom marble block is 5 and a half by 5 and a half inches and seven eighths inch tall.

The lamp came from an estate sale along with Art Deco and Art Nouveau sconces salvaged from a family home before demolition. The family said the home belonged to their great grandmother and the lighting had been stored for many years. There were two lamps in the pair, both with damage. Between the two, there were enough intact components to rebuild one complete lamp. The lamps were dusty and the glass looked amber from old smoke and grime. One lamp had cloth covered wiring and broken figural parts. The last photo shows the damaged lamp with the broken font and brittle wiring. The complete lamp offered here is made from the unbroken components of the pair.

The lamp has been rewired with a newer push switch socket, new gold cord, and new plug. A brown felt protector is applied to the bottom. The before photo showing the discolored damaged font is included for documentation. The unused original parts from the companion lamp are shown in one photo for documentation and are listed separately.
