The name Tim comes from the Thracian word “tim” – dark, black. The lead tree or elephant tusk tree (Combretum imberbe Wawra), Family Combretovye (Combretaceae) – reaches a height of 21 m and a diameter of 1 m.
Its tree is a heavy, dead tree with a long branch. The stem is pale gray, sometimes almost white, the bark cracks into small squares or rectangles, which is a characteristic feature of the tree. The main branches, almost white, are called “ivory tusks”, the young branches often end in hard spikes. Hanging leaves (faded).
Small, simple leaves are opposite, sitting on petioles, silver-gray, pale gray-green or yellowish-green, covered with a base and sometimes with small silver, gold or reddish scales. The small yellow or cream flowers are collected in loose cylindrical spikes, sitting in the leaves or at the ends of the branches. The fruits are massive, rounded, with a diameter of up to 1.9 cm, 4-winged, yellowish-green, the plant is characterized by slow growth, lives over 1000 years. Grows along rivers, in scrub weeds in Zululand, Swaziland, Transvaal, South West Africa. The leaves serve as food for many animals, the sap is used for food, the wood, which burns very slowly and gives off a lot of heat, serves as an excellent fuel. Africans consider the lead tree sacred, the progenitor of man, domestic and wild animals.
