About Miffy:
Miffy is 'born' in 1955. During a holiday in Egmond aan Zee, Dick Bruna tells his eldest son Sierk every night before going to sleep a story about a white rabbit that walks around in the garden of the holiday home. That rabbit becomes the inspiration for Miffy. When father Dick is drawing something, Miffy appears on paper. Because he likes to draw a dress more than a pair of pants, he turns Miffy into a girl. She looks stubbornly at the reader with her black eyes, has two tight, pointy ears and nice round cheeks.
Miffy speaks to children all over the world and gives them a warm and pleasant feeling of security. Many children recognize themselves in Miffy and in her adventures. Straightforward and innocent, she is positive and open to new experiences.
The name 'Nijntje' is derived from bunny. For anyone who speaks Dutch, that is a very logical name, but abroad it is different. Because the word 'rabbit' is different in all languages and 'Nijntje' is also very difficult to pronounce in many other countries, Nijntje has been given a different name that is easy to pronounce in all languages: Miffy.
