Highlights
This Sgian dubh is handcrafted by myself among the rolling hills of Scotland.
The handle is made from Teak. The pins holding the twin scales are Brass, giving a strong, resilient and well fitted handle. The handle has been oiled to give a beautiful and protective finish.
The full tang blade has been hand forged by myself from 5mm thick 1095 carbon steel with a flat grind. The grind is done by hand as is the scalloping on the spine of the knife blade. The flats of the blade have been left with the hot worked surface, giving a brute de forge finish. It has been heat treat in the traditional fashion of Japanese sword makers to produce a Hamon. This is done by a differential-hardening treatment, only heat treating the edge of the blade creating a hardened edge, softer spine and the transition line between the two. After heat treating it is hand sanded down to 2000 grit. It is then etched and polished to bring out the hamon. It has been heat treated and tempered to 60 hrc and is grounded to a good edge.
The sheath is handmade and hand stiched from thick brown veg-tan leather. It has been wet moulded to the knife itself to give an excellent fit.
