Palestrina is one of the most studied composers in all of history and for good reasons too! In a time when composers were making up their own rules and muddling up the music in the Catholic Church, he stepped in and showed the world how beautiful and clear counterpoint could be. Even Bach couldn't resist hand-copying his music for his own studies. In this sweet and straightforward guide, I will attempt to not only help you and your children become more acquainted with the music of Palestrina but also help you see how the music of this Renaissance composer was skillfully crafted. Plus, I'll share insights and stories into his music that will help you form connections with the music of Palestrina as we cover one term's worth of music for Composer Study in this 14-page guide.
This digital download is written in the style of a living book, as encouraged by Charlotte Mason.
It contains a short biography of Palestrina along with short narratives and discussion suggestions for six of his compositions.
It does not include any music, BUT a list of the songs studied is included with LINKS to ALL the songs on iTunes, Amazon, and my YouTube playlist. It also features QR codes to take you to each piece on YouTube.

In my Charlotte Mason co-op, part of my role is to lead Composer Study. As I began to research more about each composer and their compositions and began to form connections with the pieces, I longed to find a way to share the stories and connections with the children and mothers in our co-op. Thus, I began compiling these Composer Study Guides. I am working to make each guide MY narration of what I am learning about each composer and their compositions. These guides are easy to use and are designed to work with short lessons that Mason emphasized in her philosophy of education.
This project has been dear to my heart and has required many hours of work and research. Please respect the copyright and use this guide only for your family's personal use. Please do not copy, share or reproduce this guide in any way. If you'd like to use this in your co-op, please send each family a link to the shop so they can purchase their copy. Thank you for supporting our family.
