XS/S-c.1870’s Seaside Ensemble--Please read item description before purchasing for details, measurements, and return policy!

An incredibly rare c.1870’s seaside ensemble made with a nautical novelty print lightweight cotton. The print is composed of an orange seaside-esque scene; a mill house, sailboat, clouds, and a home, with blue flowers printed over the orange design. The set is composed of an overdress and skirt— the overdress has gathering at the seams for to accentuate the full look that was prominent in this decade. The overdress also has a lovely mesh lace jabot and collar. The skirt is simple with a band of ruffles above the hem, and has room in the back for a small bustle. Both the skirt and overdress have hook closures— the skirt fastens at the back, and the overdress fastens up the front, hidden beneath the jabot. To make this ensemble all the more special, there is a small pocket sewn at the waist, and hidden beneath the jabot. Most likely intended to hold a pocket watch or coins.

Condition: amazing antique condition with faint yellowing at the lace and some scattered brownish stains— noted in the last two photos.

Shown on 5’5” model, 34” bust, 26.5” waist

13.5” shoulder seam to seam, will accommodate up to 17.5” at the slope
40” shoulder to hem

Skirt:
Waist appears to have been taken in, but will accommodate 25” if closed with both hooks, and 27” of only using the outer hook.
44” waist to hem
