Donut Den Crochet Pattern - Small Snake Hide

Need a hideaway for your snake? Make them a Donut Den! This is a digital download for a crochet pattern to create your very own. This pattern uses basic stitches - single, and half-double crochet - so it is great for the beginner crocheter!

This pattern is for the SMALL Donut Den, but also comes in medium and large as well. Please see below for sizing suggestions!

Small:
Appropriate for:
* Juvenile snakes or smaller adult snakes
* Max snake circumference: 5 in
Finished dimensions:
* Diameter: 7 in (when flattened)
* Circumference of entry hole and interior space: 8 in
* Length/Distance around the interior:
- Outermost edge: ~ 20 in
- Middle: ~ 15 in
- Innermost edge: ~ 6 in

Medium:
Appropriate for:
*Juveniles of heavy bodied snakes
* Max snake circumference: 8 in

Large:
Appropriate for:
* 4 ft (thick bodied) to 5 ft (thin bodied) snakes.
*Max snake circumference: 11 in

The inspiration for creating this pattern is "Jake the Snake", a ball python education ambassador, at the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. One of our rehabbers requested a crochet or knitted enrichment hideaway for Jake, and I offered to jump on the task! As a volunteer at the center, I have helped take care of all their education ambassadors, as well as patients that come into the center. I have also crocheted nests for baby birds and pouches for baby opossums...but what about our snakes? They deserve some comfort too! Since Jake's Donut Den creation, I have refined the pattern and created it in multiple sizes.
