Hand Bound Vintage Cabinet Card Coptic Stitch Journal
This Hand Stitched Journal is made using a Vintage Cabinet Card as its cover. The Journal has 240 pages of smooth cream colored 70lb weight copy paper. The back cover is sturdy book board wrapped in a rich black paper. Using needle and beeswax coated black cotton thread, the journal is hand bound using the Coptic Stitch, which allows the book to lay flat when open, making it very comfortable to write in. Each of the 240 pages was Cut, Folded, Pierced and Stitched by hand.
In ornate lettering the front of this cabinet card is embossed with the photographers name reading "Hardy" and the location of the photography studio reading "523 Washington St. Boston". The black and white photo is of a young woman looking off to the side of the camera, her hair pulled loosely up and secured with what appears to be a black bow, she wears a beautiful ruffled white top with a beaded (?) jacket/dress that has puffy shoulders. The name of the young lady "Mamie L. Taylor" is written on the back of the cover in red ink. I've chosen to keep Mamies memory alive in some way, by turning this cabinet card into a beautiful hand bound journal, many of these old photos sadly end up being thrown into landfills, and I enjoy rescuing them from such a fate. Better to be made into something beautiful than to be lost forever or stuffed into a dark closet collecting dust.
Please understand that the cover of this journal is vintage, and by it's nature is not perfect, it features age spots and stains.
MEASURMENTS:
-The Journal measures approximately 5 inches wide by 7 1/8 inches long by 1 inch thick

What are Cabinet Cards?
Cabinet Cards, introduced around the 1860s, were photographs mounted on stiff pieces of cardboard or cardstock. Meant to be displayed in cabinets, typically in sitting rooms, rather than in photo albums. The cards typically feature details about the photographer/photo studio and location in which the photo was taken embossed on the front of the card.
