Lokta paper is prepared from the fibrous bark of the Daphine Papyracea, or Lokta in the local language in Nepal, which grows at high altitudes in the Himalayas. Lokta is an ecological wonder as it regenerates naturally and reaches maturity within 4 to 5 years after the first cutting. The Daphne shrub is strengthened by harvesting the crops. If left to grow on its own, the plant would eventually dry up. Removing only the bark from the Daphne plant actually promotes new growth and is beneficial to the plant. The controlled harvesting of the Daphne plant ensures a sustainable and eco friendly paper making process. Thus making it a most eco friendly resources for Lokta paper.
