Highlights
These bird feeders are thrown on the wheel in my home studio using a buff coloured stoneware clay and glazed with a stoneware glaze.
With the bird population declining and coming under constant threat in the UK these are a great addition to any nature lovers garden.
They come with a jute rope to hang them from a tree or a hook in your garden and have a naturally sourced hedge row perch which is easily replaced if need be.
They are ideal for a variety of foods - I have one with a Fat Ball, one with wild bird seed and one with dried Mealworms hanging in my garden.

This is a unique handmade product so no two will be exactly the same but I like to think of then as being in the same family - even if they are not identical twins they are all similar and the one you receive will be unique in every way.
The Process
This piece was wheel thrown at my home studio in Dorset.
After drying to leather hard it is trimmed and decorated - for Bird feeders that involves cutting a hole in the front and making the rope, perch and drainage holes.
It is then allowed to dry to bone dry and bisque fired to 1000 deg C
It is then glazed and fired to 1222 deg C which is cone 6 and after about a day of cooling they are ready
I try to keep my pottery as eco friendly as possible, our kiln was made in the UK by Kilns and Furnaces so has low travel miles, it is fired using our large bank of solar panels along with a trio of storage batteries making the energy used sustainable and all packaging is recyclable and reused where possible.
