Blending yellow gold and copper created an alluring pink material that was first coined as “Russian Gold.” As this mix of alloys became popular among jewellers around the world, it was later renamed “Rose Gold.” The colour of rose gold depends on the ratio of copper to gold, ranging from a soft pink to a deep red. As the copper content increases, the colour of the gold deepens to red. The components of true rose gold are approximately 75% gold and 22.5% copper and a small percentage of silver, which slightly lightens the effect of the dark copper.

What Is Vermeil Gold?

Vermeil is a combination of Sterling Silver and Gold commonly used as a component in jewelry. A typical example is Sterling Silver coated with 18K or 24K Gold. To be considered VERMEIL, the gold must be at least 10 karats (42%) and be at least 2.5 micrometers thick. In the US and various other countries, Sterling Silver covered first with a base metal (such as nickel) and then plated with Gold cannot be sold as vermeil without disclosing that it contains base metal. Vermeil is a more expensive version of Gold plated jewelry. It consists of a 925 Sterling Silver base that is coated or plated with Gold.

Synthetic Stone History

The first synthetic gemstones were created in the late 1800s, and the history of their development is as follows: 1877 Edmond Frémy, a chemist at the Paris Museum of Natural History, grew ruby crystals using a combination of alum, red lead, silica, and potassium dichromate. 1902 French chemist Auguste Verneuil announced the invention of the Flame Fusion method, which involved dropping powdered chemicals into a high-temperature flame to create synthetic crystals. Mid-20th century The Flux Growth method was introduced, which involved growing synthetic crystals in a chemical solution that cooled to form the crystals.
