Fortnum & Mason is a large food department store based in Piccadilly London since 1707. Millions visit its flagship shop to take Afternoon Tea and explore the Food Halls. Fortnum & Mason picnic hampers are world famous. The history can be traced back to the early 1700s when Queen Anne insisted on fresh candles every night. This resulted in spare palace wax and enterprising footman William Fortnum saw the potential. Together with his landlord, Hugh Mason, the two began melting and selling on the Royal wax.
