I wrote this poem thinking about my mom and realizing it was her voice, her wisdom, and her warm embrace that made me feel safe. There is nothing like Motherhood and treasuring our mothers. I pray this poem blesses your Mom.

It reads:

From the time I was born your voice became my comfort and guide,
And your arms were instantly my safe place to hide.
Your hugs were my warmth, your hand always in mine,
My constant protector, always by my side.
As I grew I let go of your hand but I knew I didn't have to fear,
If I called your name, I knew you'd be there.
From knee scrapes, to heart breaks, and awkward adolescent years,
To needing reassurance, wisdom, and comfort in my tears.
When the teen years came I let go of your hand even more,
And your voice became the one I would try to ignore.
I rolled my eyes, crossed my arms, and wanted to run,
I drove you crazy, ticked you off, and broke your heart all in one.
As I grew into adulthood I needed to learn some things on my own,
And it was you this time who opened your hand and let go.
You sent me to spread my wings with a hope and a prayer,
That the Lord would now protect me and always be there.
Mom, looking back on my life I can now understand,
That it was your unconditional love that made me who I am.
You will never know my gratitude for all that you've done,
For your constant support and guidance from day one.
Please know, no matter how old I get or how busy I may seem,
Your voice, your wisdom, your guidance I will always need.
I pray on this Mother's Day you are filled with this truth:
Without you I don't know what I would do.
