This is a complete set of Elbert Hubbard's famous “Little Journeys” series published by H. M. Wise & Co. Copyright, 1928. It is the Memorial Edition bound in hardcover cloth with decorative paper spine labels. All of the books have retained their original dust jackets.
In this series the author visits the homes of great writers, musicians, artists, scientists, politicians, philosophers, teachers, reformers, businessmen, orators, and lovers. A highly abbreviated list of the approximately 168 homes visited includes those of Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, Walt Whitman, Thomas Edison, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Empress Josephine, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Rembrandt, Thoreau, Aristotle, Socrates, Martin Luther, Lord Byron, Moses, Pythagorus, Andrew Carnegie, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Copernicus, Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach Each volume is illustrated with portraits of The Great. Individually they measure approximately 6 1/2 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches tall. Together the set will fill 20 inches of linear shelf space. The books are sturdy and clean with bright, crisp pages. They have gilt top edges and sewn in silk bookmarks. Their jackets show tanning from age and light edgewear. The books are mildly musty.
Elbert Hubbard is best known as founder of the Roycroft Press and the artisan community known as The Roycrofters. In addition to his “Little Journeys” series, Hubbard also penned the famous, A Message to Garcia. He and his wife died in the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915.
