This antique beauty is really gorgeous and sweet, made with truly rich silk ribbon and a cotton string lace. I've consulted with experts and historic costumers, and to be honest, I don't have a solid date for this piece. Most agree that the ribbon looks mid 19th century. The style is similar to both caps of the era - but not perfect, and edwardian lingerie caps, although it is far more substantial. The heavier lace is more a fit for Edwardian style, though. All this to say - I've done my best. The silk ribbon is heavy and exceptionally vibrant - cobalt blue, red, lime green and soft yellow. The string lace that it alternates with is delightfully textural. It is pleated to cup the hair at back like a snood. At each side, silk and printed silk are fashioned into little berries stuffed with cotton. It is lined with a raw silk, and has blue silk satin under at the front, becoming a brim accent.

This piece is lovely, but flawed. The silk under the brim has split all along the underside. On the right side, a berry is missing its silk cover. On the left, the millinery leaves are scrunched. There's two cuts to the lace ribbon, and one fraying hole, each in a different band of silk. The lace has yellowed some, but more notably at the back of the neck where the lining is also soiled from wear. It wears beautifully, and should display nicely.
