Vintage 1985 Robert Bateman Wildlife Paintings Coffee Table Book

A stunning coffee table sized book: The World of Robert Bateman, featuring pages and pages of his exquisite wildlife paintings. The book was published by Viking / Madison Press Book in 1985.

The text is by Ramsay Derry, with design work by V. John Lee.

The book is a large format, hard cover with its original dust jacket. It measures 11.25-inches by 12-inches with 179 pages.

Building on his previous book, The Art of Robert Bateman, this new book offers an entirely new selection of more than 90 paintings, including some of his most recent works, carefully reproduced in accurate full colour. From the magnificent game animals of Kenya to a tiny hermit thrush perched beside a Haida totem pole in British Columbia ... from an elf owl in an old aggro cactus in the Arizona desert to a barn owl in an English churchyard, the pictures reproduced her press the full range of Bateman's travels, interests and talent.

The book also features a profile of the artist by Ramsay Derry, that chronicles Bateman's career and personality. Derry traces Bateman's early years as a teenage birdwatcher and artist to his present intentional success.

The book is in good vintage condition. The hard cover shows some fading and the dust jacket has some edge wear, particularly along the bottom (see closeup photo). Some minor yellowing of the outside of the pages but only very minor. Inside, no writing on any pages nor are any pages torn or stained. The full colour, full page plates are bright, crisp and beautiful - frame worthy. The binding and spine are in great condition with all pages well attached.

A beautiful book that would make a great gift or fantastic book for your coffee table. You will view these images over and over - they are that beautiful.
