Vintage Folk Art Tomato Shaped Pincushion adhered to a Large Wooden Spool of Conso Brand Carpet Thread, circa the 1930s. This cleverly made novelty pincushion belongs in the "make do" category because so many sewers in days past (and even today) would make their pincushions with objects they had around their homes and this is just one such example.
The red cotton tomato-shaped pincushion has a light green felt leaf on the top with an attached thread string that holds another small leaf or bud. The cushion has several butterfly sewing pins that came with it so they will be included. The tomato pin cushion has been glued to a large, vintage, wood spool partially filled with Conso Products Company, New York, beige Carpet Thread. The wood is dark brown and the spool stands well on a table. The original label is still on the bottom of the spool.
Condition: For a pincushion that is well over 75 years old, it is in wonderful condition. With the exception of a few pinpricks, we found no issues. The pincushion has no rips or tears and is solidly adhered to the thread spool.
A truly unique and novel little treasure and one that you may proudly display in your sewing or folk art collection. It will sit nicely on a shelf, table, or beside your sewing machine, etc.
Measures approximately 4 1/2 inches tall x 2 inches in diameter on the base.
