Grandidierite is extremely rare and was discovered in Madagascar in 1902. A few years ago there was a larger find in Southern Madagascar but it has not yielded much by way of facet grade material. Most of what comes out of the ground is nice for beads and for ornamental gems like eggs and pebbles. This gem was sourced directly from Madagascar through our contacts on the ground. It is not the cleanest specimen and has a divet in the crown but it has great color and faces up nicely. It has a dark body tone so the inclusions are far less visible. It's a really nice collector's specimen and will definitely look pretty in a ring or pendant.
